The Children’s Aid Foundation of Halton, Holiday Dreams Program helps children, youth and families who have experienced significant trauma and loss by providing essentials and gifts to spread the warmth of the holiday season.
Below are suggestions and festive ideas to help you plan for ‘giving and caring’ with your colleagues, family and friends. Thank you for your consideration.
Financial Donations:

Personal Care Kit (Items for teens)
Start with a basket, fill with:
- hair clipper/beard trimmer kits
- nail care kits, hair dryers/straighteners
- teen packs, toiletries (soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush/paste, deodorant etc.)
- socks, PJs (all ages/genders)
- wireless ear buds/headphones, wireless speakers
- cozy blankets
Life Start Kit (Items for youth transitioning into independent living)
Start with a laundry basket or hamper, fill with:
- bath and hand towels, tea towels, dish cloths, oven mitts
- drinking glasses, mugs, cutlery, dishes
- saucepans, frying pans, cookie sheets
- kettles, toasters, mixing bowls, chopping boards
- kitchen utensils (spatulas, whisks, wooden spoons)
- colanders, reusable food containers, can openers, measuring cups
- brooms, mops
- bedding – sheets, comforters (all sizes), soft blankets, pillows
Welcome Kit (Items for newborns)
Start with a laundry basket or hamper, fill with:
- diapers, baby wipes
- washcloths, lotions, soaps
- cotton receiving blankets, baby blankets
- diaper bags
- onesies, infant clothing
- rattles, infant toys, teething toys
- baby thermometers
Comfort Kit (Items for children and youth during challenging times)
Start with a duffel bag, backpack or small suitcase, fill with:
- cozy blankets, fun/soft pillows
- toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush etc.)
- reusable water bottles
- pajamas, socks (all ages)
- child/adult activity i.e., colouring book/pencil crayons, puzzles
- gift cards for Tim Hortons, Subway, McDonalds, etc.
Education Kits (JK to postsecondary)
Start with a backpack, fill with:
- pencil cases, locks
- reusable food containers, water bottles, Ziplock bags
- pencils, pens, highlighters, markers, pencil crayons, crayons
- lined paper, binders, dividers
