Tutors

Would you like to help a child or youth reach their full academic potential or motivate them to achieve more? Tutors work one‐on‐one with children and youth in need of assistance to achieve their academic potential.

They range from ages six to 18 and are at all academic levels, most often needing assistance in Math, English, Science and French.

We schedule sessions directly with the foster parents at your mutual convenience.

Meet Shelley – a tutor

Shelley is preparing to apply for teacher’s college. She found the Halton Children’s Aid Society online in the fall when she was looking for a volunteer teaching opportunity. At the same time, a young boy in a foster home was struggling with schoolwork. Shelley worked with him one evening each week throughout the school year.

“At first, he was uncomfortable. You could tell he wanted to do better, but he didn’t seem to want to be there. But little by little, he let his guard down.”

“Now we can work longer, his attention is focused, and his grades are up a full letter. His foster parents say he’s more confident as well. Sometimes they even have to say that time is up for our session!”

“The Society—his case worker—reviews my feedback every month, but they never pressure me. I want to continue working with this boy, to see him continue to improve and gain confidence that I won’t let him down.”
