Upcoming Events

During July and August 2014, there are a number of events where volunteers play an important role in making the event a success! Check the list below to see if one is just right for you!! For more information or to apply for one of these volunteer opportunities, contact Clara Costa.

Amazing Race 2014–July 14th to August 12th (four to six volunteers needed per day)

Our FUTURES Educational Program and Summer Camp are joining forces to plan the second Halton Children’s Aid Society Amazing Race. We are looking for volunteer judges on July 14th and August 5th at Bronte Creek (basketball challenge, frisbee golf and kite making), on July 16th and August 6th in Niagara Falls (orientation challenges) and July 22nd and August 12th at Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada in Toronto (scavenger hunt and various other challenges). This is a great opportunity to teach our youth in care important life skills such as reading train schedules, reading maps and following directions. Four teams of five youth will participate in a race that involves following clues and performing fun team-building challenges. We need volunteers who are able to take a few hours out of their day to hand out clues and judge the team’s performance during the challenges. Volunteers must be over the age of 18 and able to provide their own transportation to the venues.

Oakville Charity Dragon Boat Festival–August 10, 2014

On Sunday, August 10th, the 2014 Oakville Charity Dragon Boat Festival will be held at Kelso Conservation Area in Milton. This is a fabulous event and once again we are the main recipient of the proceeds raised. We need volunteers to help set-up, assist with registrations, marshal and help out with a variety of other duties. The event runs from early morning to late afternoon and most shifts are approximately three to four hours in length. A meal and t-shirt are both provided for all volunteers.

Charity BBQ–August 13, 2014 (12 to 14 volunteers needed)

On Wednesday, August 13th, Brash Avenues, a local marketing merchandise company, is planning a charity BBQ to benefit the Children’s Aid Foundation of Halton. A BBQ, gourmet food tasting, silent auction, fundraising games, event specials and prizes are being organized. We need volunteers to help set-up before the event on Wednesday morning and volunteer throughout the day running the silent auction, games, etc. The event starts at 12:00 noon and runs until 6:00 pm at Brash Avenues (4129 Harvester Road, Burlington). A t-shirt will be provided for all volunteers.
